Laurie Carter

Founding Co-Owner | Moore Accounting Group

Laurie Carter is a founding co-owner of Moore Accounting Group and an accomplished accounting and financial leader with more than 15 years of experience providing accounting, tax, financial management, and advisory services to businesses and organizations.

A Vermont native, Laurie graduated from high school in Vermont before moving to South Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where she earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and International Business. She went on to earn her Master of Accountancy from the College of Charleston.

Laurie has called the Charleston and Summerville area home since 2007 and has built a diverse career spanning accounting, finance, and human resources leadership across a wide range of industries, including nonprofit organizations, manufacturing, SaaS, real estate, construction, and restaurant management services. Her career has provided her with a broad understanding of the financial and operational challenges business owners face — from day-to-day bookkeeping and payroll to financial reporting, tax compliance, budgeting, process improvement, and strategic decision-making.

Laurie worked in restaurants through high school and college. After college, Laurie worked as an accountant at a well-known local restaurant management company, where she expanded her restaurant accounting expertise.

That hands-on experience gave Laurie something that can’t be learned from a textbook: an understanding of how a restaurant actually operates. She understands the importance of daily sales reporting, cash controls, payroll, labor costs, food and beverage costs, vendor management, tip reporting, financial reporting, and having timely information available to make business decisions.

Laurie continued building her expertise while working for a local CPA firm, where she provided accounting and tax services to a wide variety of businesses, including restaurants and bars throughout the Charleston and Summerville area. This experience allowed her to see the financial challenges of businesses from both the operational and accounting perspectives.

Laurie’s commitment to leadership extends beyond her professional work. She has served as a member of the Charleston County School District Audit and Finance Committee and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the South Carolina Association of CPAs (SCACPA). In 2022, Laurie was recognized as a Senior Financial Executive of the Year by the Charleston CFO Council. She is also a graduate of the 2023 Leadership Charleston class through the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Today, Laurie is proud to serve businesses throughout the Lowcountry while helping build Moore Accounting Group into a trusted local resource for accounting, tax, payroll, and financial advisory services.

At Moore Accounting Group, Laurie’s mission is simple: give business owners the financial expertise they need without making accounting feel complicated.
